commissions & contact

If you would like to commission a painting the first thing to do is to contact me by EMAIL. I will need to set an appointment to discuss your requirements.
I require a 35% non refundable deposit to begin working. My prices are based on the size and complexity of a work and begin at around $800 (plus tax if applicable, travel expenses, framing (optional), and shipping and crating costs). From there the prices go up to about $3600. For commissions, prices are negotiated at the outset before I begin working. It will take me at least ten weeks, maybe longer. I can email digital photos while the painting is in progress for you to view. My paintings are painted with oil on stretched canvas or linen. For larger works I use heavy duty stretchers. I use only the finest artist grade materials and traditional painting techniques.
The remainder, plus shipping cost, is due upon completion of the work. If you are not satisfied you can return the painting within 30 days and I will refund the cost of the painting minus the 35% deposit. I cannot refund shipping charges because I would have to take too great a loss.

Portraits

If you would like a portrait it is always best for me to meet the person and make my own sketches and photos. However, if the portrait is a surprise gift or if the person is deceased this would not be appropriate or possible, so photos supplied by you will have to suffice. In that event please supply me the best photographs available so that I can get a sense of the personality of the person. Any addtional information about them is helpful as well. I will try my best to get a good likeness. However, keep in mind that in this circumstance the photos provided are the only information I will have. If your photos are not adequate for me to work from I will have to refuse them.

Horse Portraits

As with regular portraits, I would prefer to make sketches and take my own photos. If this is not possible I can work from photos you supply if they are of sufficiently good quality. However keep in mind that working from photos alone is to work with a handicap. I will have to reject photos that are not of sufficient quality for me to work from. I can only paint what I can see.
